Caboolture Physical Therapy Centre turns 30

Kaye Kerr, owner and principal physiotherapist at Caboolture Physical Therapy Centre has been practicing physiotherapy since 1983. She has prided herself on delivering a comprehensive physical therapy service and with an experienced team of therapists on staff, she has built a strong reputation in the local area for offering a high quality, collaborative and holistic, inter-disciplinary health care service.

This month, the clinic is celebrating its 30th birthday, marking a huge personal milestone for Kaye. She has successfully developed a model of care that not only allows her and her team to provide an ongoing service to the Caboolture region but to be able to work together across multiple disciplines to achieve client goals.

Interdisciplinary collaborative care was the model on which Kaye founded her practice 30 years ago. It started as Caboolture Physical Therapy Centre, a name that reflected a platform where therapists could work together to provide a complete treatment for patients with acute, chronic and complex rehabilitation needs. She believed that a patient-centred team approach, along with good relationships with doctors and the local medical community would get the best results for her patients.

As Caboolture grew, so did the practice. Since opening the clinic at Caboolture park shopping centre in 1989, the practice expanded finding larger rooms in King street before relocating to its current location at 4 Annie Street to accommodate the growing number of services provided. Kaye has played an active role in the Australian Physiotherapy Association, local community organisations and more. She has been honoured with business achiever awards and has received many additional nominations over the years.

Kaye recognised that no two patients presented with the same symptoms and became set on the importance of clinical reasoning in practice and delivering care that was not by recipe or protocol but with patient goals at the centre. She believed patients deserved that!

As a result, she went on to study several complimentary and alternative Western and Eastern therapies including Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, Dry needling, Nutrition, Hypnosis, Counselling, Shiatsu, as well as several Exercise Therapy styles. Kaye went back to university to extend her learning in Sports Physiotherapy, did research on the medical basis of Acupuncture, and more recently worked towards a master’s degree in Neurological Rehabilitation and qualifications in Women’s Health.

Having an established clinic in the local area has seen many generations come through the doors and the ability to call so many people friends.

"There are patients who have been supporting us since the beginning, as well as the many new clients we get to meet each week. To have been trusted with their confidence, their friendship and have a share in their health and well-being, has truly been humbling".

30 years in practice - a word from Kaye

I would like to extend a huge thank you to the people of Caboolture who have supported the practice as patients, referrers, businesses, co-workers and friends. Offering services in Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Massage and Dietetics, we have developed a wide referral base.  Without your continuous support over the past 30 years, I would not have had a practice. Many of you have become friends, many of you I have only met by letter, but I know we share a passion for people and their health and happiness.

The non-competitive support and encouragement that Caboolture businesses and professionals give to each other is unique and a testimony to the resilience of this incredible region.  Thank you to all those whose leadership, mentorship, and example has helped me along the way. A special shout to the service groups of Caboolture and their members for whom I have the greatest respect.

So many people have commented to me on the qualities of my staff over the years. Their professionalism, their friendliness, empathy for patients, their willingness to learn and strive for excellence. And secretly, I think. I am so lucky! This milestone is shared with them.
Over 30 years, this practice calls so many people friends and that friendship means so much.

The staff at Caboolture Physical Therapy would like to extend their congratulations, your caring nature and passion for helping others is truly inspiring. What an achievement, we can't wait to see what the future has to hold. Here's to another 30 years in practice.
